What must I do to have eternal life?
1. The understanding & need
Our Heavenly Father has given each of us His perfect plan of salvation;
Everlasting Life! It is His gift of grace to each and every one of us. We don't
deserve it; we can't buy it, and we can't earn it...it's simply a gift! All we
have to do is claim it.
"For God so loved the world, He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." (John 3:16)
God has given each of us a free will to decide how we will live our lives here on earth. We can opt for good or evil; we can follow a path of disobedience or a path of righteousness...it's our decision. But it's a decision that we can't put off, because once we are aware of God's plan for us, by not making a conscious decision to accept Christ (the only way to the Father), we have made the decision to reject Him.
Biblical scholars generally agree that planet earth is on the threshold of the "end-times", which will culminate with the second coming of Christ. Most Bible prophesies heralding the "end-times" have already been fulfilled. Wars and rumors of war, earthquakes, floods, fires, disease, moral decay, famine and pestilence, etc., as predicted in Bible prophesy, have unquestionably increased in frequency and intensity, and will continue to do so. The Bible tells us that near the end of seven years of terrible tribulation on earth, only Christ's return to earth would prevent mankind's complete annihilation.
We are not saved through trying our best to live a "good" life. We are all sinners, and if we die in our sins we are going to spend eternity in hell. Telling a lie is a sin against God. Sex outside of marriage - any type of a sexual relationship that is not between the marriage of a man and woman - is a sin against God. Taking something that doesn't belong to you is stealing, and is a sin against God.
Many people deceive themselves by thinking that they will turn to Christ after they straighten their lives out... after they stop drinking, or stop lying, or stop stealing, or stop using drugs, or stop committing adultery, or whatever. That rationale may help them justify their procrastination, but it's equally as absurd as thinking that they will turn to the medical profession after their cancer is cured! God's Word makes it clear that we are all sinners, and that the penalty for sin is death. We can only be saved by accepting a free gift of a pardon for our sins - through accepting Jesus Christ.
Regardless of how "good" we try to live our lives, we are all sinners in the eyes of God. For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23)
The penalty for sin in our lives is death, but God has provided a free pardon to those who will accept it. On this earth we must be "in" something.... Sin-death, or Eternal life through Jesus Christ. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23)
God is willing to forgive us if we are willing to receive and accept His pardon and forgiveness in Christ. If you know you are a sinner and want to be forgiven, and if you want to come to Christ, you can be saved.
Jesus answered and said to him, "Truly, truly I say to you, unless someone is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." (John 3:3)
Why did Jesus come to die?
Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father; but through Me." (John 14:6)
that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, "Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame." (Romans 10: 9-11)
Jesus Christ is our only path to eternal life with God, but you must open the door and invite Him into your life.
"Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. (Rev. 3:20)
If you have not accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior, please don't delay your decision any longer. If you believe in your heart that Christ died for your sins and rose from the dead, won't you yield your life to Him right now? Your life will be instantly and miraculously changed, by simply, and earnestly praying the following prayer.
2. Your Part
1. Recognize that your sin (disobedience) separates you from a
holy God. (Rom. 3:23)
2. Realize that God loves you and believe that Jesus Christ died for you and rose again from the grave. (John 3:16)
3. Receive Jesus into your life by faith. (Rom. 10:9-10)
4. Confess with your mouth and believe in you heart your desire to become a follower of Jesus.
5. Pray The Following Prayer now
"Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner and I need Your forgiveness. I believe that You died in my place to pay the penalty for my sin and that You rose from the dead. I now turn from my sin and disobedience and turn to You, trusting in You alone as my Savior and receiving Your gift of eternal life. I accept you in my life as my God and Savior and friend"
----- You Have done it! ------
After you accept and receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, remember these facts about the gift you have just received:
God's Holy Spirit is now living inside your body - forever.
God will NEVER leave you or forsake you. If you do not feel close it is because you moved ... not God!
There is nothing you can do to make God love you more than He already does.
There is nothing you can do to cause God to love you any less.
When we pray we are not trying to persuade God to join us in our service for Him; prayer is the activity of joining God in His ministry.
Satan will attack your faith and your conscience - expect it. Satan's primary weapons of attack are discouragement and depression. Recognize, and be aware of Satan's devices, resist him and he will flee from you. You are an heir to the kingdom of God!
Does being a Christian mean that you will never sin again? Of course not - man has a sinful nature! But Christ has paid your sin debt with His blood, and as a Christian, you will want to turn from your old sinful ways and become more like Christ, and with His help and the help of the Holy Spirit who now lives within you, you can and will!
